Weddings
This Wedding Photo has been supplied by Mrs Eileen Newby, Mr George Newby and Miss Eileen Durrell were married at St Luke's on the 10th September 1938.
The wedding party from left to right: Thomas Livesey (Groomsman), Reta Durrell (Sister), Barbara Durrell (Smallest Bridesmaid), George Newby, Eileen Durrell, Harold Newby (Groom's Brother and Best Man) Edna Durrell (Sister) and Fred Durrell (Brides Father)
As was the case then, the wedding photos were taken at a Photographers Studio. This photo was taken by the firm of Winspear Herbert in Market Street. The reception was held at the Yorkshire House.
The flowers were from Wilkinsons in Cornmarket Street, Following the wedding, the florist packed them in a box and sent them down to Brightlingsea, were they were laid on the Durrell family graves.
Mrs Newby's dress was pale pink and the bridesmaids dresses were pale green with pink and silver plaited around the neck.
Further to the Newby's wedding, Edna Durrell Married Thomas Livesey on Boxing day 1938, and Harold Newby joined the Navy and was killed in action during world war 2, when HMS Repulse was sunk on the 10th December 1941.
