Boys’ Brigade Display and Awards Evening
There was a really good turnout on Friday 16th May when the Boys’ Brigade held their annual display and awards evening. There were photographs and table displays to look at, and a chance for some of the audience to take part in a few of the activities, willingly or otherwise! The Dads v Lads relay races were memorable, though the performance of the Dads in the ‘skipping relay’ is best left to the imagination!
Father Gary’s welcome and introduction at the start of the evening summed it all up: the Boys’ Brigade gives the boys a lot of fun things to do, but gives them a strong Christian foundation too. We saw that in the hymns, the prayers and the story they told us.
There was much evidence of teamwork too, in the games, the marching and in more serious activities. The finale was the awarding of badges, trophies and certificates which recognised all the achievements of the boys during the past year.
In fact, the evening gave us an insight into the whole range of activities provided by John Walker and his team, and we saw an obvious rapport and respect between the leaders and the boys. Father Gary said that one of the reasons why we were there that evening was to support the leaders, who give up so much of their time to the Boys’ Brigade. The leaders deserve our thanks for all their commitment, while the boys deserve our congratulations for all their achievements and for being brave enough to appear in front of an audience of friends and relations!
Parents – why not encourage your sons to have a word with John and join the 1st Skerton Boys’ Brigade on Fridays evenings in the Methodist Hall? They’ll learn new skills, make good friends …… and have a lot of fun!
