Junior Church
Our friendly and welcoming junior church takes place on a Sunday morning at 10am down in the Methodist hall. We have two classes running; one for the 3-7 year olds and the other is for the 7-14 year olds. Junior church is approximately 45 minutes long, during which time we worship, sing songs, read bible stories and have a craft session.
The 3-7 year olds are looked after by Jill, Jean and Claire, the 7-14 year olds are looked after by June,Carol and Heather. All of our junior church leaders are first aid trained and CRB checked, so you can be assured that it is a very safe and caring environment for your child to learn about Jesus and his teachings.
At approximately 10.45, we join the 10.15 Sung Eucharist service, for the Peace and Communion part of the service, the children are encouraged to go up to the rail where they will receive a Blessing from either Fr Gary or Yvonne. We would also be very pleased to welcome you to St Lukes Church, if you would like to join us while your child is in junior church.
Harvest Jar At the beginning of every junior church, we start our worship with prayer and we have a collection plate for the children to contribute to, the donations are collected throughout the year in the *harvest* jar and then the coppers that are donated go to a local good cause, past causes have included St John’s Hospice and the Edward St Homeless Shelter, the silver coinage helps junior church, by helping to fund supplies and stationary etc.
Special Services In July of each year junior church lead a church service for everyone, it usually takes place during the 10.15 Sung Eucharist service. The younger children lead us in song, and there is always one we can all sing along with, the older children give readings and prayers, it is a very lovely and special service as the children always work very hard. We also lead the services for Mothering Sunday, and we have church parades too.
